For the past few months the lovely Johnna of Ever Lash Studio has been extreme lashing me :)
*Lisa started doing this last year to help create fullness in her lashes and less makeup during her busy wedding season.. But I didn't even think to get them until I met Johnna*

I'm loving my full lashes and having to wear less eye makeup. This time of year my eyes tend to hate me from wearing contacts for long hours, allergies and makeup. So it's a nice break from the itchy eyes.

With a change of jobs and entire store of many brands of makeup and skin care I thought it would be fun to do a product feature of the week.

I'm already stocking up on samples of the many different lines Shoppers carries and to be honest its a little scary to the amount of product and information my brain is trying to take in. I'm a total Gemini and my mind can't handle over load so I tend to lose focus.

So by blogging about my observations I figure it will help me stay on track and really start to learn about all the exciting things coming my way.

My first Product of the week is Bioderma Sebium H20. I started using this cleanser because my skin has been acting like a thirteen year old and I'm at my wits end. During and after pregnancy my skin has done a total 1 80 and I am now combination skin with larger pores.

So far I have noticed that my skin is less oily during the day and my spots are clearing up quickly. Feels super light weight but I do rinse after cause I personally believe you need to when ever using cleanser and I use a very moisturizing night cream.

On the eve of my departure from my MAC world, I'm lost in thought and reflection...

Ever since I was a kid makeup/beauty has been my life.. I was at Shoppers every week getting the lastest products from sun-in to Revlon cheek/lip liquid stain. At 16 my whole cosmetic life changed on a trip to Nanaimo, Woodgrove Bay MAC.. I bought my very first Pink Lustre eyeshadow.. and from that a love affair began.

For years many pay cheques would be spend on the latest, hottest products. I finally got the nerve to apply for a job in 2008 with encourgement from Lisa and Amy.. and the rest is history.

In many ways a jobs a job.. But at MAC its a family...A big huge family of amazing, talented, inspiring people that has helped me become the talent I am today.

Thank You to all the ladies at MAC Mayfair and the amazing trainers in Vancouver.

I have been so blessed with so much support and encourgement to follow my dreams and passions.

Just as the daffodils, tulips and green grass started to appear winter makes one last return to the North East. Everyone is looking forward to sunny days, cool breezes and being able to enjoy spring time. We will have to endure one more day of snow today and tomorrow.

So in winters honor on what is hopefully it’s last visit, today’s feature is a gorgeous winter destination wedding in Whistler, Canada. Lauren and Sam came all the way from Charlotte North Carolina to have a very intimate ceremony at the Pan Pacific Whistler Hotel. They stood in front of a beautiful fire place for their I Do’s and than braved the snow for pictures.

Following the ceremony bride and groom headed to the Araxi Restaurant for a wonderful dinner with just their guests. Very thankful that Lauren and Sam had this beautiful intimate winter ceremony captured by the wonderful Lisa, Michael and Carly from Ophelia Photography.

Audrey, Grace and Jane || A Collective Editorial in Victoria BC

This collective editorial shoot started with a dress purchased last summer from GT Vintage Parlour that was orginally intended to be my wedding dress. I believe however that the true purpose was to fulfil this insprational, awe-inspiring editorial shoot of three amazing women: Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn and Jane Austen.
As luck would have it Lisa stumbled upon the other two dress at True Value Vintage and from that an idea was born.
"We wanted to create intimate portraiture of uniquely charming iconic women still relevant today. Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn and Jane Austin are women who taught, by example, what a lady was: a vessel of grace and gravity, ready wit, eldritch charm: women whose greatest discretion as to hide their awareness of splendour". ~Ophelia Photography.

Audrey/Amy~ Effortlessly Chic, stunning eyes and rich dark hair.. Amy was blended to perfection, full dramatic lashes, liner and the perfect lip. Lady Danger red/orange was the perfect contrast with the soft elements and striking features.
Jane/Corrie~ Innocent and timeless, gorgeous, beauty and youth. Blended, soft, clean and defined with a hint of drama in the lash (ok lots of lash but I love lashes).
**Corrie was extremely sick during this shoot which why there isn't enough of her..she was an industry pro and Tyra herself would have been proud!**
Grace/Me~ Chic, romantic, grace.. Black Gel liner,over lined with Rich browns, golds, highlighted champagnes and whites..
I wanted the bottom lash to be a focus with pulled out liner and bottom lashes added for extra fullness in the eye. Johnna from Everlash Studio applied the perfect amount of volume and length to my top lash extensions.

Sam and Lauren's Whistler Wedding

I went to Whistler,BC at the end of February for Sam and Lauren's winter wedding.. This stunning couple travelled all the way from Charlotte North Carolina with their lovely family. The ceremony was held at Pan Pacific Whistler Hotel.

Lisa had mentioned in her blog post all of the love and gratitude we had felt and received from the entire group but I must reiterate.. I have never felt so much warmth from people I had just met.. but it was if I had known them my entire life..

The mamas.. Oh the mamas!! These two amazing women were so excited to get their makeup done and to learn tips and tricks and lashes :).
As a makeup artist I can't think of a better kind of client then one that is A..Excited and B. wants to learns.
I am all about making women feel their best by looking their natural best!
As for Lauren wow what a babe!! I did a bit more drama with her that was all inspired by an Eva Longoria updo.

I hope they don't mind but I HAVE TO share this beautiful letter they wrote me:

Dear Carly,
What can I say? The beauty of my bride was so overwhelming yesterday that I was one tear away from having an emotional breakdown. Her beauty is natural but when she turned that corner to walk down the isle I could have sworn that I was having a dream.
You turned our ladies into supermodels and that made every one's day that much more memorable. The girls couldn't stop talking about how beautiful they felt.
You do amazing work and are a true artist. We are grateful to have you as a friend and that you were able to be a part of our special day!

Kari Burgers of Eternal Reflections took her shoot to the always amazing and beautiful Royal Roads University in January.
Ana Maria the stunning model was a perfect pick to create a modern pinup style bridal shoot. We kept the skin fresh and flawless, soft pearly pinks defined eyes and cheeks and the classic red lip.
Thankfully the weather held up for them and together they captured some truly beautiful photos.

Hope everyone had an excellent holiday season, hard to believe it has come and gone already.

2011 has officially started and I'm already behind!!

I've been busy with a ton of holiday and NYE makeup and a family photo shoot.

It's also back to work for me tomorrow, this still hasn't kicked but I'm sure it will when I'm brush belted tomorrow at Mayfair MAC.

SO with that here are some photos of the things I've been up to:

We did are regular family Christmas photo back in November at my parents place in Port Alberni. Every year we come up with a different theme and outfits. This year we had some new additions: Lisa, Matt and Georgia. The girls (Harlow and Georgia) were our special helpers in their reindeer and elf suits, the rest of us found our outfits in my parents closest (not kidding)

I was very busy New Years Eve dolling up some of the beautiful ladies of Upstairs Cabaret;

New Years theme was MOULIN ROUGE BALL. Loads of black, sliver and gold, sparkles and LASHES.

Irene and Jeffrey were married on August 1,2010 at Brentwood Bay lodge here in Victoria.

I arrived early Sunday morning at the Lodge to get started on Irene and her lovely ladies.

It was hard to believe that it was already her wedding day because Irene was my VERY first makeup after Georgia was born back in March. It's that time flying on us again!

The ladies all had fresh skin with a glow, satins, creams, pinks and golds with black liner and false lashes.

Irene went softer on her eye makeup for the Tea and Wedding Ceremonies. I went back out to the lodge in the evening to give her a bit more drama to go with her smoking hot purple dress.

Timeless, elegant and classic

Man oh man what a babe!! I just have to say it.. For the title of MUSE I think Mallory falls right under it. Most would say she is quite and a bit shy but when that camera is on her she is confidant, chic and exquisite.

I usually post about my experience of the morning, themes and colours but these photos literally left me speechless.

Lisa out did herself again, finding a way to blow our socks off. Capturing the pure beauty of Port Alberni on a hot summers day with breathtaking backdrops and beautiful people. Today is the halfway mark of my little girl Georgia.. Hard to believe 6 months has come and gone..
So this is a little shout out to my amazing chiclet who has been nothing but a blessing in my life. She has allowed me to follow my passions since the moment she arrived and I am so thankful for her everyday.

I arrived to a very calm and surprisingly quite house the morning of July 24,2010 or now known as Sarah and Will's Wedding Day. The girls Sarah, Jamie, Jess and Julie were just finishing up their breakfast, trying to figure out what last minute touches needed to be done outside. Sarah's parents hosted the entire wedding right in their beautiful backyard in Port Alberni. Looking out to the left were white chairs with purple ribbons lined for the ceremony and to the right were white tents and tables for the reception. The center pieces local wild flowers filled the living area giving off a soft floral scent. For having the house as ground zero it was hard to believe that it could be that tranquil.
Makeup started with mom Patti who was a skeptic at first never having her makeup done before and being a last minute addition.. I promised her that it would be the best version of her. It was soft browns and creams, light foundation and powders and a final pop with false lashes. In the end it seems that thumbs up were flying around the room.. I continued on with Julie a good friend, and sisters Jamie and Jess.
Lots of liner with hues of mauve, pearly pinks and champagnes, glowing contoured skin and Viva Glams V&VI were the days theme.
When it finally came Sarah's time the house had begun to stir with the arrival of the boys (Will waiting outside of course) Sarah needed her last minutes quite before getting into her dress and seeing her husband to be, so it became my job to return the calm.. Lisa and Sarah had a good laugh at my amazing skill as a bouncer.. But as a makeup artist I find it very important to have the stillness required for perfect lining and definition.

~Sarah you are one breathtaking bride.. May you and Will have a life time of happiness!

A quick mention to Shea.

I did a makeup lesson with Shea and her mom before her big day in July. I had prior engagements the day of but was so happy I could be of some use.

She was super cool, down to earth and natural and it was so much fun helping her become a bride: A natural glow (Tinted moisturizer and Soft and Gentle Skinfinish).. Fluidliner to line the lashes to make them fuller and loads of mascara for her amazing eye lashes and a touch of pink/peach to bring out those stunning blue eyes.
She looked absolutely stunning in her vintage pale pink dress that blended in with her ivory skin and beautiful blond hair.

MAD MEN and Babes

It finally happened again.. I got back in front of a camera and I have to say it was pretty awesome.. Since becoming a mom I don't get a ton of time for these sorts of things. Weddings keep me busy and are my away time from Georgia..No complaining but I guess I didn't realize how nice it was to turn off my brain and pose..
Other than my maternity shoot I haven't been in front of the camera in a year+..

We met at Sarah's store while in Port Alberni, as Sarah held Georgia I got to playing around with all of her amazing vintage outfits..Came across the green dress and from that moment the shoot was created. With the help of all three of us Lisa, Sarah and myself we put together two amazing outfits right down to the shoes.
We shot at sunset which I have now learned is the best time for lighting and as we finished Russ and Georgia showed up and I got a few STUNNING photos of my little family.. I'm so lucky to have such a talented friend who gives me memories for a life time. I can't wait to get those developed and start my very fist Ophelia Album.

Since this was a 60's inspired shoot I decided to keep the makeup clean, contoured, soft and beautiful. Women in the 60's were very detailed, tailored and done up.

Thanks again Sarah for allowing us to ransack your store to get all the right pieces..I can't wait for my next visit!!

It was hard to believe the time had finally come to do the makeup for Tasha's July wedding up Mt. Washington. In Feb 2009 I got an email from her asking to do her makeup..it was literally right after she got engaged..and I was so excited to get book.

No where was I thinking I would soon be pregnant with Georgia or having to figure out child care.

So after plotting out a few options my sister Lori agreed to tag along to care for Georgia while I did the makeup. We arrived to a very busy condo with a lot of familiar faces.. The place was calm and under control as Tasha a school teacher was VERY organized.

The entire day went super smoothly with tons of laughs and stories..

Congratulations Tasha and Dan!! Thank you for having me part of your day and welcoming my family with open arms. Wishing you both a life time of love, laughter and happiness.xo

I wrote back in April/May how excited I was to reconnect with Rachael in June for her wedding.. Hard to believe that June has already come and gone and here I am posting her blog entry..Just show's you how quickly time time flies..

I met Rachael and her bridesmaids at Shampoo Hair Bar who graciously allowed me to come in.. The salon has an antique edge to it..which all went in theme..Classic, Vintage, Fresh and Fun..Once the girls hair was done we headed back to the the place where it all started the Marco Polo. I finished up the other two bridesmaids, put the last touches on Rachael all by the time Lisa started shooting.

It was all the fun I had anticipated from our last shoot and so much more!

These are a few of my favourite shots so far...there will be more to follow.

Brianne and Jorge

Brianne and Jorge's wedding was one of grace, elegance and spice.
It took place with a stunning back drop of Vancouver's Jericho Beach at The Brock House restaurant. I was not only lucky enough to part of this special day but to attend it as well.

It was one of my hardest tasks so far as a freelance artist, to get seven ladies done before 3:30pm with two locations in Vancouver. But not impossible.. I started the day downtown with two bridesmaids Erin and Jemma. Georgia was a spectator watching me work again! As always she played quietly with the help of the ladies and one of the groomsmen. Russ arrived from the island to take over daddy duty and I took off to West Vancouver (where Brianne's parents live) and finished Brianne, Siliva, Karen, Laura and Anne.
All the ladies were so gracious and easy going, everything went effortlessly.
The entire day was a wonderful experience and I'm so happy to have been part of this magical day!

Mallory and Kyle

As I started to write my blog this evening I found it hard to put into words just what to write about Mallory and Kyle...

Ophelia Photography has posted yet another amazing blog and Lisa's incredible talents of photographing and writing about Love leaves me speechless.

There was a certain something about the shoot with Mallory and Kyle that made me feel like I was 16 again. Young, free..in high-school, working while still having time for pit parties on the weekend with your friends. It brought up a feeling of adventure of the new and unknown. The rush you get when you first fall in love, that feeling as a teen you never want to loose.
Yet most of us don't get to hold on to the memory in the same way. We grow up, graduate high school, go on to college or work and we move on. Your first love becomes a memory, fleeting and unrequited.....that is until you hangout with Mallory and Kyle for an evening. They brought me back to a time where you still had butterflies in your stomach as the boy you were crushing on passed you in the hallway. They get to keep that memory forever. How amazing it that!
It all started with a tutu, fairytale head piece and ballerina slippers.. Mallory with her easy going nature went along with Lisa's vision of a ballerina fairy. Perhaps this is because Mallory is a dancer a heart and a tutu skirt, ballet shoes and wreath of flowers are not far off from her childhood of dancing. Kyle and Mallory have been together since 2002 and yet they still act like its the first day they met. They embody the essence of young love that has grown into a beautiful companionship and yet they still have butterflies. From their photos you can see just how much these two really love each other and as a hopeless romantic I couldn't help but gush over it.

I am looking forward to July 31 when I again get to help with their magical day.

Make-up: On Mallory's skin I used Select Tint and Studio Stick mixed with a dusting of Blot Powder. Matte Bronzer blended into her already naturally flushed cheeks with a touch of Pearlette Pearlizer Sheer Pigment (one of my old school faves). Brows were filled with Taupe Impeccable Brow Pencil and Clear Brow Set. The eye's were done with Coral Crepe ( a New Fave) paint pot blended in with Mylar and Sketch, then lined with blacktrack fluidliner. One coat of Studio Fix Lash then rocked out #7 lashes and finished with Viva Glam V Lipglass.

Marissa is a beautiful, driven, striking woman who wanted to embrace her youth and beauty with a shoot of her very own. She wanted taste,class, Brian (her boyfriend) and the perfect yellow dress.

Lisa (Ophelia Photography.)asked me when I was still pregnant about doing the makeup with the original date of Feb 21,2010 and I was all in. To say the least I didn't even know what to expect with motherhood approaching but I knew that I had to be apart of this shoot.

We ended up rescheduling for a later date April 19 and with Georgia on hip we created a master piece. The first part of the shoot was just Marissa in her beautiful newly renovated condo which once stood as a church. After Lisa took Marissa and Brian down to Beacon Hill Park to shoot in the rich spring colours.

Ophelia Photography. and I teamed up for a Victorian Boudoir shoot...Location the Beautiful Villa Marco Polo Inn in Victoria, BC.

Rachael the Bride-To-Be is getting married at the end of June and what better way to send off your single self then by getting some seriously hot photos done!

Lisa wrote "She exhibits a chameleon quality with a natural gift for looking amazing in every pose" there is no better way to say it. Rachael was a total knockout in front of that camera.

Her makeup was a classic pin up; thick black liner, clean flawless skin and a twist with a beet lip instead of the traditional red lip.

I'm excited to meet up with Rachael again in June for her wedding day.

Georgia and Ophelia Photography. met and made some magic. My little girl was quite the little natural in front of camera but did make us work to get the perfect shots. She has a mind of her own (remember she was 12 days over due!) and really is the boss in front of the camera. These are some of the most amazing baby photos you will ever look at ( not bias at all)

Baby Makes Three

Meet Georgia Riley Macklem... My beautiful daughter was welcomed into the world February 17,2010 at 9:25 am weighing in at 7.10 lbs. It's hard to believe that she is a month old tomorrow, I guess the saying "time flies" was first said by a mom.

It's been a bit of a challenge to blog and be a new mom but I promised I would try to at least once a week (something I haven't held up to).

I'm going to do my best to keep to my word and because I spend almost all of my time with Georgia, she will be the next features of my blog.. I'm going to blog a bit more about motherhood until I get my projects going.

Motherhood has been amazing so far..I think Amazing is my favorite word since Georgia came. She is a true blessing..so calm, relaxed and happy. She eats and sleeps a ton but when she is awake(which is more and more everyday) she is so calm and focused. Georgia will stare at pretty much everything around and take it in with curiosity. She has got to be one of the loudest sleepers I have ever met.. She has so many noises grunts and groans the are followed by a few head tosses..not sure what side she wants to sleep on. It is so funny and amusing to watch during awake hours but when your trying to sleep it can be a bit tough..So she is in her crib now..which was a hard transition..but best for the household.

Georgia's very specials visitors came all the way from Vancouver Jake and Evelyn (Evelyn from Denver but visiting Vancouver) Spent the morning with us then back to Van for the 3pm Ferry.

A little smile..or gas..but I like to think they are all smiles :)

My Lovely Baby Bump

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of being photographed by my close friend and mentor Lisa Gratton of Ophelia Photography.. She made a quick visit over to the island and captured the final weeks of my pregnancy.
If I had to use one word to describe Lisa it would be magic, she can take a simple picture and turn it into a master piece. I have worked with Lisa on a ton of Weddings and Editorials Shoots (in some I was the model) but this was my first shoot just for me.

It was a Chilly January morning and once again Lisa had me in a dress out in the cold...Seems to be a common theme with our shoots. Thankfully this time there was no snow on the ground and the sun broke through to give some warmth. My boyfriend Russell and I followed Lisa's vision.... And yes you guessed it magic!! The pictures truly express the bond between us and our baby....they are extraordinary..

Vintage Wedding Shoot with Ophelia Photography

On January 21,2010 I did a calibration with Vancouver Wedding Photographer Lisa Gratton. Lisa bought a vintage wedding gown months before from GT Antiques and Collectables (formally know as Gramma’s Trunk in Port Alberni,BC) and had a vision of recreating the perfect bridal editorial shoot. It was an amazing January day, the perfect weather, lighting and locations (Moss Bay Cemetery and Dallas Road, Victoria, BC). Corrie our exquisite model/muse captivated the shoot with her natural beauty. As Lisa quoted "She is pure magic"

Skin: Face and Body, Mineralized Skinfinish Powder and select cover-up

Brows: Spiked Brow Pencil and Clear Brow Set

Eyes: Bare Study Paint Pot, Pincurled (highlight), Satellite Dreams & Beautiful Iris (lid) and Print (lightly in crease) and touch of Vanilla Pigment in the inner corners.

Blacktrack Fluidliner to give extra shape along the lash line and New Studio Fix Mascara. Fascinating Eye Kohl was used in the water line and #44 Lashes were used for the extra flare and drama.

Little Right Now...

As of January 1,2010 I have been on maternity leave from MAC and I must say I'm loving it. I love my job and what I do so much but it has been really nice to be at home and nesting. In about 2 minus weeks (hopefully) I will be a new mom to a baby girl and I know my life as I know it will change. To have this little extra down time has been a blessing...I was going to try to work until the end of January..so happy I changed my mind.

With work and makeup on hold for the moment I have enjoyed trying some of the things I have wanted to do for ever but never had the time. Cooking, reading, relaxing and cleaning!!

I had the baby room pretty much done within the first three days off work and have had the last two weeks to spend a lot of time making a home and cooking.

On Sunday I did a small photo shoot with my sisters Amy and Corrie, my beautiful niece Harlow and friends Anna and Diane. I was trying to get that perfect belly shot and profile picture at 9 months pregnant. We had a very interesting afternoon trying to figure out the perfect light, placement, location and trying to get the camera to work. This is my favorite photo out of the bunch... a moment caught with my boyfriend Russell.
